A Glorious, Raw Beast
This is the 2006 Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster, and it’s absolutely insane. While many see it as a more modern and refined machine than the Countach and Diablo that came before it, the Murciélago delivers the same in-your-face, loud, over-the-top, crazy, raw, and ridiculous Lamborghini driving experience. And it’s wonderful.
Big Announcement: This very Murciélago Roadster is for sale and being auctioned live on Cars and Bids. It belongs to my friend Nick, has under 20,000 miles, a massive V12, and a fantastic gated six-speed manual conversion. It’s everything you could want in one of these.
Background & Powertrain
Lamborghini Legacy
The “Murci,” as it’s often called, was Lamborghini’s fourth major supercar after the Miura, Countach, and Diablo. If the Countach defined the ’80s and the Diablo the ’90s, the Murciélago was the supercar of the 2000s.
German Influence
This car arrived just after the Volkswagen Group (specifically Audi) took over Lamborghini, bringing refined production methods. However, despite German influence, the Murciélago remained a raw, old-school Lamborghini at heart.
Legendary V12
The heart is a 6.2L naturally aspirated V12 producing 575 HP. This engine’s roots trace back to the original V12 designed in 1963. Lamborghini used variations of this engine for nearly 50 years!
Exterior Quirks & Features

Iconic Wedge Shape
The Murciélago modernizes the iconic wedge shape pioneered by the Countach. It’s a breathtakingly beautiful design that gives the car an immense presence.
Bat Wings
Perhaps the coolest party trick is the “bat wing” button. Press and hold it, and two panels pop out from the sides. While ostensibly for cooling, the real reason is to look cool—fitting for a car whose name means “bat.”
Power Dome
On the rear engine lid, a rectangular section rises up—a clear homage to the “downdraft” engine lid on the most powerful Countach models.
Deep-Dish Wheels
The front and rear wheels share the same design, but the rears have a dramatic deep-dish look to accommodate the massively wider tires.
Interior Quirks & Features
Scissor Doors
Stepping inside is an experience thanks to the legendary scissor doors. The entry-level Gallardo had normal doors; only the flagship Murciélago got the dramatic “Lambo doors.”
Everything in the Wrong Place
Nothing is where you expect: seat belts anchor in the middle, window switches are in the center console, and the ignition isn’t on the steering column.
Asymmetrical Leather
In a bizarre design choice, the driver’s side has perforated leather while the passenger side has smooth leather throughout.
Manual Conversion
This car was expertly converted from E-gear to a gated six-speed manual. The conversion looks utterly factory and enhances the driving experience immensely.

The Driving Experience
Driving the Murciélago Roadster is an event. It delivers a level of occasion and excitement that far surpasses a Gallardo or Huracán. You feel lower, wider, and more connected. The sound from the V12 is thunderous and intoxicating.
The combination of the scissor doors, the raw power, and the sheer presence of the car creates a driving experience that few vehicles from any era can match. With the gated manual conversion, that experience is heightened, offering a more engaging and visceral connection to this glorious, raw Italian beast.
Own This Piece of Automotive History
This Murciélago Roadster is currently for auction on Cars and Bids. With under 20,000 miles, a massive V12, and a desirable gated manual conversion, this is a rare opportunity to own one of the last truly raw Lamborghinis.
